SOJOURN – World of Spirits [Metallic Blue Records 25th Anniversary reissue] (2026), MP3+FLAC

Celebrating the Silver Anniversary of their album “World of Spirits”, American band SOJOURN made a deal with Metallic Blue Records for reissue of this long time out of print CD, now with a new artwork.

SOJOURN has released remastered anniversary editions to their first two albums (featured on plotn08) and now is time for their 3rd and final installment with ”World of Spirits [Metallic Blue Records 25th Anniversary reissue]”.
Founded in the early ’80s, SOJOURN’s music mixed Pomp AOR & Melodic Rock, driven by huge keyboard / guitar runs in the best style from the genre. ‘Lookin’ For More’ (1985) is a gem with that magic mid-Eighties sound, then ‘Different Points Of View’ (1989) was more radio friendly according to times.
It wasn’t until 2001 that SOJOURN released their third and final album, ”World of Spirits”. Judging by its sound, the band seemed completely oblivious to the arrival of the 21st century: the album is unapologetically steeped in the pomp and grandeur of ’80s rock. Ignoring contemporary trends, they simply chose to record the kind of music they loved.

Opener ‘Heart of a Poor Boy’ is pure AOR delight, not especially pompy but 1988-1989 with catchy refrains, synth stabs, and a pretty rocking guitar work. There’s a certain 1985 Deep Purple influence on ‘Losing Track of Time’, and if you want a good hard rock groove, check out the bluesy ‘One more Nail in the Coffin’. Very catchy beat on this tune.
Title track ‘World of Spirits’ is a pomp rock little masterpiece, not only AORish but adding hard rock, atmospheres, and an almost proggy feeling during its 8+ minutes.
One thing is for sure. This album will appeal to both classic rockers as well as classic AOR / hard rockers. The band sounds tight and the songwriting is very consistent, and neatly produced.
