French heavy metallers LORD GALLERY finally unleash their first full-length with “Insurrection”, a record forged from galloping riffs, high-flying vocals and unapologetic old-school steel. There is nothing polite about it — this is leather-jacket heavy metal with one boot planted firmly in the early ’80s.
Hailing from Vendée in western France, LORD GALLERY have spent years shaping a sound rooted in traditional heavy metal but always willing to lean into speed. Think the galloping momentum of early IRON MAIDEN, the sharp melodic instincts of RIOT and ANGEL WITCH, and the harder edge of SATAN or ACCEPT.
That old-school backbone does not mean the band are content to simply copy the past. Their songs carry a strong regional identity, drawing inspiration from Vendée history, local legends and darker historical tales. That gives the music a character of its own beneath the obvious NWOBHM bloodline.
Fabien “Lord” Fadelli remains the focal point, switching between guitar and commanding high-register vocals, while Titi “Le Roy” Rat’s adds the second guitar voice that gives the songs their melodic bite. Vincent “Nécromancien” Potéreau and Sergueï “Bourreau” keep the rhythm section tight and aggressive underneath.
After their 2021 self-titled EP introduced the band’s mixture of melody, speed and traditional metal muscle, “Insurrection” feels like the natural next step: bigger songs, heavier production and a more confident sense of identity.
There is no attempt here to modernize heavy metal into something unrecognizable. LORD GALLERY sound perfectly happy letting twin guitars gallop, solos scream and choruses rise toward the ceiling. Sometimes the old weapons still cut deepest.
