Aubrey Stewart returns with “Second Chance at a First Impression”, a self-made hard rock record built on thick guitars, direct songwriting and the feeling that every song has something personal to prove. There is nothing overdecorated here — just riffs, melody and a songwriter putting his own name on every moving part.
The title itself carries the album’s central idea: life rarely hands out clean resets, so the first move matters. That theme runs through “Agency”, which opens the record with a clear sense of self-determination, and keeps resurfacing as the songs deal with control, consequence, belief and the way people keep moving when things stop going according to plan.
“Just A Game” and “Dying Just To Live” keep the guitars up front, while “God of the Day” pushes into darker territory with a heavier, more deliberate pulse. “Love Me Before You Go” brings more melody into the picture without turning soft, balancing hard-rock muscle with a more vulnerable edge.
“The Light Follows Me” brightens the mood slightly before “Violence Against The Truth” snaps the tension back into place. “In Spirit” stretches beyond four minutes and gives the album more room to breathe, while “Stand or Fall” lands as one of the record’s bigger statements, both lyrically and musically.
“Along For The Ride” closes things with a more relaxed sense of acceptance, almost like the album finally loosens its grip after spending most of its time wrestling with choice, control and consequence.
What makes “Second Chance at a First Impression” interesting is how completely it belongs to its creator. Aubrey Stewart wrote it, performed it, engineered it and produced it himself, and that gives the record a consistency that feels less polished-by-committee and more like one long conversation from start to finish.
