Danish singer, composer, producer and popstar from his mid 80’s debut into the early 00’s. Born in Aarhus, Denmark, October 15, 1964. In highschool bands Kaksi Kuggas Band (1981) and leadsinger in Elevatordrengene (1983). First time on record on the 1985 charity single “Afrika” released on Genlyd that soon after released his first solo album “Thomas Helmig”. His next albums was released as by Thomas Helmig Brothers, a band that included members from Elevatordrengene. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s Helmig had several hits and was stadium league as a live act. In the 80’s he sang almost exclusively in danish but changed for english in the 90’s. He also wrote hit songs for such major Danish acts as Sanne Salomonsen and Hanne Boel as well as produced for Malurt a.o. By the late 90’s his pop chart appearence became rare just as his release frequency dropped.
In 1990 he became part-owner of the Genlyd label which by 1992 was sold to BMG Ariola A/S.
Helmig has been married twice. In 1986 he married singer Søs Fenger, whom he also recorded duets with, “Når sneen falder” and the AIDS-awarenes single “Den jeg elsker elsker jeg”. They divorced in 1989. His second marriage is to psychologist, writer, ex-topmodel René Toft-Simonsen, former girlfriend of Duran Duran’s John Taylor and cover model of Roxy Music’s The Atlantic Years 1973 – 1980
