SWEET – Live At The Marquee 1986 [Metalville remastered reissue] (2025), MP3+FLAC

SWEET’s ‘Live At The Marquee’ was recorded at London’s Marquee Club in February 1986, shortly before the legendary venue closed its doors for good. At this concert, the legendary SWEET presented a heavier sound without losing the energy and melodic appeal of the classic hits and anthems.

The album is being reissued 2025 in remastered form by Metalville Records on CD and Vinyl titled “SWEET – Live At The Marquee 1986“.
The record was captured at London’s Marquee Club in February 1986, shortly before the legendary venue closed its doors for good. The SWEET line up at the time consisted of original members Andy Scott (lead guitar) and Mick Tucker (drums) as well as Paul Mario Day (ex- MORE, and the very first IRON MAIDEN singer) on vocals, bassist Mal McNulty (Slade), and Phil Lanzon (Uriah Heep) on keyboards.
This line up really rocks, and the classics – all are here from ‘Action’ and ‘Sweet F.A.’ to ‘Love Is Like Oxygen’ and ‘Fox On The Run’ – are harder n’ heavier on the live setting than the studio tracks, and sound great! Paul Mario Day kills, it’s a shame this vocalist from the NWoBHM scene isn’t better known.

There’s an expected extended version of ‘Love Is Like Oxygen’ and it is fantastic at nine minutes with a big solo. ‘Set Me Free’ is also quite a jam, and of course the hits are there too, including ‘Ballroom Blitz’. It is a sharp set and a great performance.
You also get a couple of bonus tracks not present on the earliest release of the record: ‘AC/DC’ and ‘Burn On The Flame’.
