Heaven The Axe – ‘Sex, Chugs And Rock ‘n’ Roll 2012

NOW!

There is a raw, down and dirty feel to a lot of the rock music that finds its way out of Australia and Heaven The Axe are no exception. What separates them from the herd is that they are fronted by a blonde, in your face force that is Phoebe Pinnock (strewth, a Sheila!). She appears all the more glamorous when you see her surrounded by the rest of the hairy bearded blokes that make up the band. While the novelty might pique people’s interest at first, it’s the music that counts. Does it deliver? Well, yes and no. Certainly, they have a sound that has appeal. The guys have been in various metal bands down under and their craft and graft shines through. The result is scuzzy, sleazy riffs that are cranked out hard, fast and sharp enough to give you a buzz cut. In Pinnock they have a singer who has a lusty voice that’s the equal of the metal around her. Vocally, she’s very reminiscent of Alanis Morrisette and, to a lesser extent, Linda Perry of Four Non-Blondes fame. While those artists in the 90s pushed the fact that women didn’t need to dress like Britney to sell records, Phoebe takes the Britney route and straps on a leather bra and would slide down a greasy pole to get your attention.

PLACE CALLED RAGE – PLACE CALLED RAGE (2012)

The super-group known as PLACE CALLED RAGE was formed way back in 1995 to record an album representing the Long Island (NY) sound.
From California to the Jersey shore, even Seattle had their own sound, but no one band ever represented one of the greatest musical hot spots of the world; Long Island has always been the go to place for great musicians.
Along came 4 top guys; the great six-tring scorcher Al Pitrelli, (Alice Cooper, Asia, Savatage, Megadeth), vocalist Tommy Farese (Trans Siberian Orchestra, Rondinelli), bass player Danny Miranda (Blue Oyster Cult, Queen) and Chuck Bonfante on drums from great melodic rockers Saraya.
They got as well a little help from some friends such as refined keyboard player Mark Mangold of Touch / Drive She Said.

THE ROCKFORD HEROES – White EP + Light Scares (2012)

THE ROCKFORD HEROES was founded in Sweden during autumn 2010 by Jonas Arvidsson (guitar) and Dan Hultstrand (vocals).
Jonas, previous guitarist in the metal act VII Gates, wanted to do something more complete and comprehensive to his musical influences, and found that the so far unknown talented Dan wanted the same thing.
After a few demo recordings to show the music, drummer Marcus Johansson and bass player Pekka Kiviaho were recruited as well, thus formed a complete line-up.

The Rockford Heroes raised some eyebrows with their impressive indie EP “Light Scares” earlier this year, and now are back with another one in the form of “The White EP”. Both EP’s combine their love for classic ’70s pomp AOR / Melodic Rock, ’80s Hard Rock & modern day sounds.
The music features plenty of crunchy riffs and classy keyboard textures, with a wide spectrum of influnces ranging from Styx, Rainbow, Skid Row, Edguy, Queen, Pretty Maids, Tobruk and many more. The band is kind of all over the map but it works.
