Fogalord – A Legend To Believe In(2012)

NOW!

“A Legend To Believe In” comes alive through its hymn-like, epic songs. The orchestral sections of the album are fabulous and not at all intrusive, while the guitar work on all twelve tracks is of the highest standard. Fans of classical-speed, highly melodic Metal with impressive vocals will have no excuse to pass over this first class album.

DOUG RATNER & THE WATCHMEN – LESSONS WELL LEARNED EP 2012

NOW!

Hailing from Springfield, Massachusetts, Doug Ratner & the Watchmen’s main claim to fame is getting banned from a popular TV show, Mass Appeal, in their hometown, for their song Bomb in the Backseat. It appears the show neither listened to the song nor understood it’s meaning. They only heard the references to bombs and explosions. O well.Ratner and company play a blend of classic guitar rock with some modern alt references. Here’s the skinny on their debut EP Lessons Well Learned. First, if you give it more than a few spins, it will grow on you. But the significant songs are three.

SEVEN KINGDOMS – THE FIRE IS MINE 2012

Seven Kingdoms commitment to melodic power metal continues on their third release, The Fire Is Mine. Led by the clear and passionate vocals of Sabrina Valentine’s vocals, Seven Kingdom effortlessly combines speed and heaviness with melody to invigorate the American power metal genre.

There’s little more to be said about Valentine’s vocal prowess that wasn’t said in my review of 2010’sSeven Kingdoms. She remains the classic female metal vocalist, singing clean and strong, but also avoiding the extremes of outrageously operatic or gruesome growling. (It appears, overall, that the band has abandoned the growling found briefly in their last release.)
