As a reviewer you do your utmost not to be biased (whether for or against) but when I read that Holy Dragons were from Kazakhstan, I couldn’t help being a tad sceptical. I mean how good can a Kazakh Metal band be? Quite good, as it turns out.Holy Dragons’ music seems trapped in an era when dinosaurs ruled the earth, those dinosaurs having names such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Weapon. Decidedly old-school material therefore but Holy Dragons have managed to put together some solid Heavy Metal that can still be enjoyed even when the novelty factor wears off.

Southern Germany-based melodic metallers FREEDOM CALL will release a digital single, “Power & Glory”, containing their best-known “happy metal” tunes on November 2 via SPV/Steamhammer. The single release will coincide with the start of the band’s European tour as the support act forLUCA TURILLI’S RHAPSODY.

if you don’t recall Focus, I suspect you’re too young to know better or too old with suspicious memory loss. I remember wearing out my cassette copy of Focus II (aka Moving Waves) with the international hit single Hocus Pocus, their biggest claim to fame.

In 2012, the legendary Dutch progressive rock band is alive and well, offering their new album X. It’s unclear if this is actually their tenth album: head over to Wikipedia and count 11 albums in the discography section. Album art work is provided by another legend Roger Dean (Yes, Asia, et al). But it’s hardly his best work, being quite angular and unfocused. Nevertheless, though founder Thijs van Leer and Focus II drummer Pierre van der Linden are both a little shorter and wider, overall, Focus is in fine form.

From the mind of CLOUDSCAPE guitarist/composer Björn Eliasson, with a host of various known vocalists, this one successfully combines symphonic, raw theatrical, doomy progressive rock/metal flawlessly. An epic adventure ride that rings fresh.
