OZZY OSBOURNE – Best Of Ozz (original mixes) [Japanese Edition 25DP 5396 / CBS] (1989)

This morning, The Prince Of Darkness – Legend OZZY OSBOURNE – passed away. It comes just a few days after the Black Sabbath star took to the stage one final time with his band mates at Villa Park in Birmingham. He died “surrounded by love”, a statement from his family said on Tuesday night.

As tribute to this Rock Music Icon, we are featuring ”Best Of Ozz”, a compilation released in 1989 including great songs from his early era as solo artist. There’s only 10 tracks, and sure, one wonders why isn’t included “Suicide Solution” or “I Don’t Know”. But on the other hand there’s great deeper cuts rarely included into G.H. such as “Diary of a Madman”, “Over the Mountain” and “Goodbye to Romance”. I’m also glad “The Ulimate Sin” and “‘Secret Loser” were included, as these songs has sort of been erased from Ozzy’s canon since then, in a manner of speaking. He didn’t liked reissuing any songs from that album.
Even though this album came out after No Rest for the Wicked (1988), this ‘Best Of Ozz’ includes no songs from that album or with guitarist Zakk Wylde. The songs are drawn from the first four Ozzy studio LP’s
So what’s the big deal with ”Best Of Ozz”? These are the original LP versions, not the remixed used on all Ozzy Best Of’s.
The classic-early Ozzy songs on ”Best Of Ozz” such as ”Over The Mountain”, ”Crazy Train”, ”Diary Of A Madman”, and even ”Mr. Crowley” sound perfect and unchanged.
R.I.P. Ozzy, a heavy metal true Icon.
