As requested, here’s a pure Eighties LP: “John Parr“, the 1984 debut album by JOHN PARR, in its hard to find (over U$D 100) Japanese limited reissue done by Japanese record label Vivid Sound as part of their Light Mellow’s Choice series.
“John Parr” never has been remastered, however this Japanese mini-LP replica reissue sonically blows out of the water other CD versions. Additionally, includes as bonus track the smash hit ‘St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion)’.
What to say about “John Parr”… I remember legendary journalist Malcolm Dome review on Kerrang! Magazine: “This is awonderful album, a glowing addition to the AOR ranks”. If you can get to grips with a man who takes the best from Meat Loaf, Foreigner and Roxy Music, then you will understand my fever over Parr.”
The record contains 3 Billboard Top 100 songs: “Magical”, “Love Grammar”, and the biggest of the three, “Naughty Naughty”, which peaked at #23 and was a top 10 AOR hit.
But all exploded for Parr with the song “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion)” recorded a few months after for the Joel Schumacher’s 1985 film of the same name. The song also peaked at number six in the UK, Parr’s home country and became a number-one hit for John Parr around the world and provided many awards and a Grammy nomination.
‘The Big Boys’ play here including Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Simon Phillips, etc…
“John Parr” is an iconic ’80s album, and this CD version fan-damn-tastic.
