IRON MAIDEN – Munich 1983 [Japan 2-CD Limited Edition] (2024)

IRON MAIDEN is a band with a well-archived official / unofficial archive, and there are official (or approved by the band) full soundboards for most tours. However, the “‘World Piece Tour / PIECE OF MIND” era is an exception. The only soundboard is the professional shot audio from the Dortmund performance that was made official in “The Early Years”, but it was less than 40 minutes long.

However, the newly excavated Munich soundboard recording is about 93 minutes long. This even surpasses the video versions of “Resurrection of the Dead” and “Maiden England”! Moreover, it is not only long but also very rich containing rare songs that were only performed live at that time.
Titled ”Munich 1983” and released by really good Japanese bootleg label Zodiac on 2-CD, this is an awesome show by Maiden. The band is at their prime, and the recording quality outstanding: Grade A+
While being described as a soundboard recording, ”Munich 1983 [Japan 2-CD Limited Edition]” sounds almost like a multitrack mixdown – but no overdubs, no post-production – IRON MAIDEN sounding like a beast.
”Munich 1983 [Japan 2-CD Limited Edition]” packaging is very professional too, numbered, using the band’s actual logo, with printed discs, a collectible.

This marks the first ever complete (bar 2 little cuts) soundboard recording from the ‘World Piece Tour’.
We listened to it through studio monitors and the instruments are leveled excellently and the recording has a lot of depth for a soundboard.
It also brings following milestones for fans of live Maiden:
– The first ever live recording of “To Tame a Land” in good quality.
– The first live recording of ”Where Eagles Dare” from the classic line up.
– The only soundboard recording of ”Drifter” with this line up in soundboard quality (sadly cut before the ending part).

Enjoy this amazing historical recording that was hidden for 41 years!!! Up the Irons!!!
