Progressive rock, also known as prog rock or prog, is a rock music subgenre that originated in the United Kingdom, with further developments in Germany, Italy, and France, throughout the mid-to-late 1960s and 1970s. It developed from psychedelic rock and originated, similarly to art rock, as an attempt to give greater artistic weight and credibility to rock music.
Glenn Thomson – Spidercraft UFO (2012)
A soaring, cinematic journey with an eclectic and powerful mix of progressive rock, electronica, jazz fusion and symphonic rock. Thomson’s compositional style draws heavily on his exploration of reflexive, unconscious processes which lead to unexpected and provocative musical and lyrical juxtapositions.
Sarcasme – Instinct (2012)
From the beginning a mysterious atmosphere of progressive rock-tinged folk and Celtic is set. Intro, a beautiful orchestration accompanied by choirs where each member participates with flute bringing folk and Celtic side. Rhythmic passages are followed with more lyrical ones where flute and acoustic guitar lead. The Anglo-Saxon side makes one can think of Solstice or Mostly Autumn. As for comparisons with the French progressive scene, names like Ange or Lazuli can come to our mind.
Arnioe – Tension and Release (2013)
This is the 7th album from Australian based Progressive Rock Ensamble….ARNIOE
Always looking to find something different and experimental, this collection of compositions has a distinct flavour of Yes meets Pink Floyd.
All songs are typically cryptic, sometimes complex, but always possess that ARNIOE “catch hook” that will play over in your mind, well after the listening pleasure of this album has expired.
