AFFIANCE – THE CAMPAIGN (2012)

now

It’s not too often that you’ll see “recommended if you like Iron Maiden, Bullet For My Valentine, and As I Lay Dying” when talking about one specific band, but that’s exactly what happened when I received the press sheet for Affiance’s sophomore album, The Campaign. With nearly two years between the band’s previous release entitled No Secrets Revealed and the forthcoming The Campaign, expectations seem to be fairly high amongst fans of the band. Two years is quite a while between albums, but I’m glad that Affiance took their time with this album because it shows that they wanted to improve and not release a half-assed album just to silence their pleading fans. The Campaign has a release date of November 13th through Bullet Tooth Records.

Staind – Live From Mohegan Sun (2012)

It’s hard to believe that throughout their 17-year career together, Staind have never released an official live disc, but all that changes this summer when ‘Live From Mohegan Sun’ makes its debut in several formats. The CD version will be available on July 10 followed by the DVD/Blu-ray out on Aug. 14.

The high definition footage was recorded at a special Staind’s headlining show on Nov. 25, 2011, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, with a sea of hometown New England fans in the audience.

MY JERUSALEM -Preachers 2012

now!

Preachers, the sophomore release from Austin’s My Jerusalem has the rather dark and sinister theme going on in the background. Founder and singer Jeff Klein (ex-Gutter Twins, The Twilight Singers) describes it as the Post-Modern Southern Gothic Soul album surrounded by beautiful, comforting, darkness. It’s real, not selfish, according to the mad hatter and Klein’s baritone vocals are ever so moody and emotionally black.

Otep – Sounds Like Armageddon (2012)

Otep fans, often referred to as “The Tribe” won’t have to go too long without something new from her before her new album releases next year. On November 5 the poet/singer/activist will release her first-ever live album, titled Sounds like Armageddon, a title all too fitting.

CRYXUS – Rise 2012

now!

Industrial/Electronic Rock project created by Producer/Composer team Josh Carlton & Daniel Apple. With heavy influence from Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Marilyn Manson, and Maynard Keenan (Tool) this debut album is sure to leave a haunting impression.

SOLDIERFIELD – BURY THE ONES WE LOVE 2012

now!

Soldierfield is a relatively young band, formed only in 2011, but not without some experienced players from the UK metal scene. These include Leigh Oates (Order Of Voices, Rise To Addiction) on vocals, Andy Trott and Steve Wray (Rise To Addiction, BLAZE), and Jeff Singer (Paradise Lost, BLAZE, Kill II This, China Beach) on drums. Their debut EP, Bury the Ones We Love offers five tracks, a prelude to a full-length album in 2013.

Sios – Halcyon Failure 2012

now!

An Art Rock band with an epic, fictional concept that serves as the backdrop to their musical landscape.

SIOS looks to break barriers and leave their mark in and beyond the music world. The band is made up of four self-taught individuals who go above and beyond to create an eclectic world; not only through their music, but also through the fictional concept they have created to serve as the backdrop to their sound. During an uncertain period in his life, lead guitarist Christian “Enigma” Cruz decided to reach out to former guitar student and band mate Phillip “Dice” Defreitas, to begin a new band with the goal of reaching millions of people and sharing their unique ideas with the world. Through this common idea, rhythm guitarist and former band mate April “Ape”

Terra Incognita – Barren Land 2012

NOW!

? would like to begin by mentioning what impressed me the most since minute one. The voice! It’s solid and “thick”, it’s powerful and passionate. Falsettos are a parameter for sure as well as a fabulous vibrato, almost operatic! On the other hand, it possesses so much roughness, it can Rock as hell! The Greek band is here to suggest some of their own things around Metal, served with lyrical extensions; I’d say it’s a pure Metal band, featuring Progressive elements. Motif is epical and majestic, choruses are totally melodic; you are about to listen to some Doom tunes, that’s also inside the package. For instance, “Cage of sins” is one of those songs…
