Death Ape Disco – Supervolcano 2013

You’ve got to give them credit: the band name is clever, curious and humorous. How did these five Brighton mates come to Death Ape Disco? Possibly the pulled out their Oxford English Dictionary (Abridged, of course), let it drop open three times, and picked three words with their eyes closed.

Andromeda – Manifest Tyranny (2011)

1319210393_andromeda-manifest-tyranny-2011Sweden’s Andromeda with severals albums and tours under their belt is definitely one of the most successful progressive metal bands in Scandinavia and Europe. Albums like “Extension of the Wish”, “II=I” and “Chimera” are considered classics in the scene, and the DVD “Playing off the Board” shows how talented this Swedish guys really are. This is something Andromeda also have proved over the years with appearances at festivals like ProgPower USA and Europe, Bloodstock UK and shows together with Evergrey among others.

DGM – Momentum (2013)

1364197430_dgm-momentum-2013Momentum shouldn’t be ignored by anyone remotely interested in melodic prog, progressive power metal, and more than likely, power metal in general. This is a milestone for a band that seems to have been improving itself repeatedly with its last few releases, and I now consider them a burgeoning first-line band (in terms of pure talent, if not commercial success) along with the likes of Pagan’s Mind, Seventh Wonder, and Vision Divine. Though perhaps not as instantly gripping as some, Momentum builds itself up with each concurrent listen, and is a force to be reckoned with.

So, I had no idea what I was getting into when I got this promo. For those who may not be aware, lipstick Liontigers are Norwegian outfit that ham to glam / power metal chip in a way that makes it look like Steel Panther Pink Floyd Fucking. Yes, it is strange, at the top, funny, and dare I say it – right? Group was not present on the music scene in 2004 with the forces AUTHORITY AND glitter and GLAMOUR OF
