Iconic Tonic – Rock And Roll 2012

now…

Columbus, Ohio’s Iconic Tonic is another strong act that has been signed to the Jamsync Music label in recent times. After the listening to “Out Loud”, I assumed the band was going to be a straight-ahead party rock band but that’s not the case. Rock And Roll shows off a band that has many influences.

The intro “MMXI” gives me a Black Sabbath vibe, possibly something you’d hear from the Tony Martin era. “Out Loud”, of course, is a fun hard rocking number and is one of the singles from the album. Definitely the most obvious choice for airplay. “Zombie Baby” not surprisingly has a bit of Rob Zombie to it while the trippy “Lost At Sea” sounds like something Pink Floyd could’ve done and “Bring You Down” sounds like alternative metal in the vein of Cold or Tool or like something from the last Lizzy Borden album. ”Time To Be With You” is done in a Beatles style. The instrumental “Iconic Tonic” takes us back to a simple hard rock style à la 1970s KISS.

Foreigner – Alive & Rockin 2012

now…keep a live

I would like to consider myself a huge Foreigner fan. I recently saw them perform this past Spring and SeaWorld Orlando and they put on a hell of a live show.
This album was recorded at the 2006 Bang Your Head Festival in Balingen, Germany. This 9-track concert was released previously on DVD but never as an audio CD. I feel that it is definitely missing the energy of the live show. The instruments seems a little bit toned down or muted during the songs. I still have a few original Foreigner albums on my iPhone and I re-listened to those track (of course a different singer), they just sound so much more energetic.

Suede – 8 Track Mind 2012

now…

The much awaited 3rd CD release of SUEDE is finally here. This CD features 10 never before recorded SUEDE songs like the tribute to the greatest era in music and CD Title song, “8 Track Mind”. Plus 2 bonus tracks of SUEDE hits!

Violet Gibson – American Circus 2012

now…
Violet Gibson is a newcomer from Italy. They released their first demo under the name of Last Vegas but before they started recording their debut album, due to some line-up changes – the addition of two new guitarists, they renamed themselves Violet Gibson.
Their sound is quite modern and more US oriented with elements from hard rock, metal, modern rock, rock & roll, classic rock & gothic rock (few ones). The production is actually good & modern as the album was mixed by Mike Bettali at MBS Studios and recorded & mastered at Studio 73 with the supervision of Riccardo “Paso” Pasini. There are some fine tunes here like: “Go Ahead”, “American Circus”, “She Feels Alive”, “In My Head”, “Forget about the Rain”, “I Wish I Could” & “From the Moon to Your Feet” (a wonderful atmospheric tune – the best of the album)… and generally they are presenting something which is OK but without it being

Mirrormaze – Walkabout 2012

now…

Proggressive metalers Mirrormaze are about to release, later this month, their debut album “Walkabout” through Bakerteam Records. To add the extra something to the album’s final result, the band have tapped Fates Warning’s legendary singer Ray Alder for a truly impressive guest appearence on the song “Deeper Signs“. The band is influenced by classic acts such as Rushand proggressive giants like Fates Warning and Dream Theater.  Mixing and mastering duties are handled by Staffan Karlsson (Stevie Wonder, Roxette, Firewind) and the complete artwork was taken care by Gustavo Sazes (Manowar, Kamelot).

Paul Reed Smith -Paul Reed Smith 2011

now…super project

Paul Reed Smith (founder of PRS Guitars) and Derek St Holmes (former guitarist for Ted Nugent) spent two years writing these songs with Mike Ault and Gary and Greg Grainger contributing. The CD is centered around Derek’s voice, the powerful Grainger Brother’s rythym section and Michael and Paul’s guitar teamwork. Derek has an international reputation for being one of the best voices in rock. Basic tracks were recorded live at the Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore and mixed at Paul’s studio and mastered by Bob Ludwig, owner of Gateway Mastering. A crisp mix of rock and soul.

Sun Gods In Exile – Thanks for the Silver 2012

now…

Portland, Maine, rockers Sun Gods in Exile make no bones about who they are or what they do. Their second album, Thanks for the Silver(Small Stone), is guitar rock all the way through – a dudely amalgam of Southern riffing and solos that puts a figurative edge to the literal “double-guitar” lineup distinction. It’s easy to imagine six-string connoisseurs swishing the work of Tony D’Agostino and Adam Hitchcockaround a brandy snifter to air them out – or at very least popping the top of a can and enjoying the hiss and the fizz as a song like “Moonshine” plays out its Southern course. At times Thanks for the Silver is almost a caricature of heavy Southern rock masculinity, and coming from a band located in the northernmost state in the continental US, that has its own issues, but damned if the five-piece don’t do it well, and the sophomore outing shows marked growth from where their 2009 debut, Black Light, White Lines (review here) left off, most notably with the inclusion ofChristopher Neal’s keyboards.
