MOLLY HATCHET – Regrinding The Axes (2012)

Formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1975, MOLLY HATCHET took their name from the famous 17th century axe murderess, a prostitute who allegedly mutilated and decapitated her clients.
Their self-titled debut album, recorded in 1978, quickly went platinum; the follow-up, Flirtin’ With Disaster, was even a bigger success, ultimately selling well over two million copies.

Golden Earring – Tits ‘N Ass (2012)

Dutch classic rockers Golden Earring are to release their first studio album in 9 years. The album ‘Tits ‘n Ass’ will hit stores on May 11th. With this collection of driving rockers and passionate ballads it’s obvious why George Kooymans, Barry Hay, Rinus Gerritsen and Cesar Zuiderwijk are still on top of the Dutch rock scene after 50 years.

Guitar legend Carlos Santana has enjoyed a tremendous resurgence in popularity and cultivated a new generation of fans over the past couple of decades via his collaborations with the biggest names in pop music. He made a huge impact in 1999 with Supernatural, which featured the multiple Grammy-winning hit “Smooth” with vocalist Rob Thomas, and other guest appearances by the likes of Eric Clapton and Dave Matthews. Santana’s three subsequent releases have followed that winning formula and focused on vocal-driven numbers with a star-studded cast including Michelle Branch, Steven Tyler, Chris Cornell, India.Arie, and Nas, among many others. But while these outings have cast him as a pop culture icon, his die-hard guitar fans longed for some new incarnations of what they consider “classic” Santana—the guy that kicks ass on the 6-string.

Sweet – New York Connection 2012

NOW!

“Are you ready Steve? Uh-huh. Andy? Yeah. Mick? Okay. Alright fellas, let’s go!”

It started with a press release arriving at Dangerdog HQ: (The) Sweet were releasing a new album of cover songs. There was name I hadn’t heard in decades. Much to my surprise The Sweet still exists. It seems guitarist Andy Scott has been reanimating the band in some form since 1984. (It appears that bassist Steve Priest, another original member, leads an alternate Sweet out of Los Angeles). Scott and company cut SweetLife in 2002. Now, here’s the real kicker: all this brought back a singular memory. I saw Sweet open for Foghat in 1978 at the Hershey Park Arena in Pennsylvania.
