Originally released almost a decade ago and sold out, Purple Pyramid Records reissued last year “Mysterious Sessions“, a compilation featuring the amazing voice of BOBBY KIMBALL.
While the title is a little funny as most of the songs included appeared years ago into tribute albums, cover sessions, etc, some of these tracks are not easy to find. It’s a very cool compilation and to have all these Kimball performances into one single CD, there’s an unreleased Bobby Kimball cover of Level 42’s classic ‘Something About You’.
Apart from the covers of famous songs by bands such as Aerosmith, Journey, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Level 42, and more, we have Kimball’s unique take on 3 Toto mega-hits; “Hold the Line”, “Africa”, and “Rosanna”, recorded with an updated sound.
Alongside Kimball covering these classic songs there’s super musicians such as Mike Porcaro (Toto), Bob & Bruce Kulick, Greg Bissonette, Billy Sherwood (Yes), Patrick Moraz (The Moody Blues), Tony Kaye (Yes), Alan White (Yes), Derek Sherinian (ex- Dream Theater), progressive legends Nektar, and many more.
It has been said many times; Kimball may be singing the phone book and still would be interesting to hear.
