Spanish metallers CRÛMMY return with “Atlas”, a heavier and more mature second album where groove, thrash and progressive metal collide with darker melodies and a stronger sense of identity. The riffs hit harder this time, but the band leave enough space for atmosphere, clean vocals and real emotional weight.
Coming out of Málaga, CRÛMMY have spent the last few years sharpening this material onstage before finally committing it to record. That live mileage shows: the songs feel built to move a room, with dense rhythm guitars, aggressive grooves and choruses that open up instead of simply piling on more distortion.
The title track “Atlas” is a strong example of that balance, combining a muscular metal backbone with a more reflective mood. “Falsos Poetas” brings a sharper lyrical edge, while “Mi Venganza” hits with the sort of direct, riff-first attack that has already made it a live favorite.
“El Mal” is one of the most interesting pieces, mixing crushing rhythm work with melancholic atmosphere. Lyrically, the song plays with the idea of evil on two levels: illness and premature death on one side, and the rise of selfish, cruel behavior through social media on the other. It gives the heaviness a purpose beyond simple aggression.
CRÛMMY’s real strength is the contrast inside the sound. Kiko Romero can move between rough, guttural delivery and cleaner vocals, while the twin guitars of Víctor C. Gil and Javier Lucena keep shifting between blunt-force riffs and more melodic, progressive detail.
“Atlas” does not feel like a band trying to fit neatly into one corner of modern metal. Groove, thrash, melodic rock and progressive touches all bleed together, but the result still sounds cohesive because the songs are written around impact rather than genre labels.
