Powermonger – Powermönger – 2026 EP

Canadian metal maniacs POWERMÖNGER hit the underground with a debut EP that sounds like it was smuggled out of 1985 in a crate of leather jackets and overheated amplifiers. Fast, sharp and gloriously unrefined, this is heavy/speed metal with the safety catch removed.

Hailing from Vancouver, POWERMÖNGER build their sound around razor-edged riffs, high-energy rhythms and the kind of choruses made for rooms full of raised fists. There is no attempt to modernize the formula into something slicker or safer; the band clearly love the danger, dirt and immediacy of early speed metal.

The title track opens with exactly the right amount of arrogance, while “Leather Legions” sounds tailor-made for denim, studs and sore necks. “Hellfighter” keeps the pace high with a more aggressive attack, and “Off the Menu” brings a slightly looser groove into the middle of the EP without letting the energy drop.

“Order of the Lich” is the longest original track and gives the band more room to stretch out, bringing a darker traditional-metal atmosphere into the mix. The closing “Max Overload” is a cover of Belgian speed-metal cult heroes ACID, and it fits so naturally beside the band’s own songs that it feels more like a declaration of allegiance than a bonus.

There is a strong old-school spirit here, but POWERMÖNGER are not simply dressing up as somebody else’s past. The songs are concise, hooky and played with enough conviction to make the whole thing feel alive rather than archaeological.

This is the sort of debut that does not ask politely for attention. It kicks the door in, turns the amp up another notch and leaves the ringing in your ears to make the introduction.
