Danish rockers ELECTRIC GUITARS throw the rulebook into the back seat on “What Are We Waiting For”, a record that keeps the twin-guitar fire burning while wiring the whole machine into synths, loops and a much more modern pulse. It still rocks hard, but this time the road is lit by neon instead of bar-room bulbs.
For the first time, founding guitarists Soren Andersen and Mika Vandborg step away from the production desk and let drummer Morten Hellborn take full control. That shift changes the atmosphere immediately. The guitars remain front and center, but the arrangements are leaner, stranger and more willing to wander outside the familiar blues-rock lane.
“Messenger” sets the tone with a driving riff and a sleek electronic undercurrent, while “Only In Your Head” pushes the band further into modern territory without sacrificing the hook. “High Note” has the swagger you expect from ELECTRIC GUITARS, only now the edges are sharper and the production feels less rooted in the past.
“Gaslight” and “The Inner Circle” continue that move away from classic-rock comfort zones, bringing more tension, texture and rhythm into the songwriting. “Never Gonna Back Down” then turns the guitars loose again with exactly the kind of stubborn, fist-up energy its title promises.
The title track works as the album’s central statement. “What Are We Waiting For” sounds like a band challenging itself not to repeat yesterday’s tricks, while “Give Me What He’s Got” brings back some dirt and attitude before “Anarchy” closes the record with the controls pushed firmly into the red.
There is an interesting contradiction at the heart of the album: ELECTRIC GUITARS deliberately wanted to leave old rock clichés behind, yet they ended up recording more guitar than ever. That tension is what makes the record work. The synths and loops do not replace the riffs; they make them feel more dangerous when they arrive.
After years of working inside the classic hard-rock framework, “What Are We Waiting For” feels like the band opening a side door and discovering another room was there all along. Same guitars, different electricity.
