Last year, D-A-D, one of the biggest Danish rock bands turned forty years old and to celebrate released a ‘Greatest Hits’ on 2 physical CD’s, titled “Greatest Hits 1984-2024”. But the digital download version was re-titled “Forty Love – Greatest Hits”, and sports different artwork.
Incredibly, the digital version isn’t taken from the physical CD master, but compiled from each album digital download version. Hence, there’s different dynamic ranges, annoying volume / gain drops, live cuts ending abruptly.
As requested, here’s the real ”D-A-D – Greatest Hits 1984-2024 [2xCD]” official release, properly mastered for an enjoyable listening experience.
This is an absolutely true greatest hits compendium. Have fun on this wild ride through nostalgia and the present, from early hits like “Sleeping My Day Away” or “Bad Craziness”, to new songs like “A Prayer for the Loud” or “Burning Star”. There is something for every fan from every decade.
D-A-D, originally known as Disneyland After Dark, has left an indelible mark on the Scandinavian rock scene since its formation in 1982. The band’s original line up consisted of Jesper Binzer (vocals, guitar), Stig Pedersen (bass), Jacob Binzer (guitar), and Peter Lundholm Jensen (drums). The band’s name was later changed to D-A-D in 1989 due to a trademark dispute with the Walt Disney Company.
D-A-D‘s early years were characterized by their energetic live performances and a sound that blended hard rock with a punk attitude. They gained recognition with their debut album, Call of the Wild, released in 1986. The album featured tracks like “Land of Their Choice” and “Call of the Wild,” showcasing the band’s raw and dynamic sound.
The breakthrough for D-A-D came with their third album, No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims, released in 1989. The album spawned hit singles such as “Sleeping My Day Away,” a song that became a massive success and remains one of their most well-known tracks. No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims solidified D-A-D‘s status as one of Denmark’s premier rock acts and gained them international recognition.
Throughout the 1990s, D-A-D continued to release successful albums, including Riskin’ It All (1991) and Helpyourselfish (1995). The band’s sound evolved, incorporating elements of alternative rock and grunge while maintaining their signature hard rock edge. They toured extensively, building a dedicated fan base not only in Denmark but also in other European countries.
In 1999 D-A-D‘s new drummer Laust Sonne entered the band and gave them a new direction in sound and vision, which is showcased on albums like Everything Glows among others.
In the 2000s, D-A-D continued to release albums like Soft Dogs (2002) and Scare Yourself (2005). Their live performances remained a highlight, showcasing their infectious energy and the enduring appeal of their music. The band’s resilience and ability to adapt to changing musical landscapes contributed to their longevity in the industry.
In 2011, D-A-D celebrated their 30th anniversary with the release of DIC.NII.LAN.DAFT.ERD.ARK, an album that demonstrated their continued creativity and relevance. The band’s lineup remained unchanged over the years, a testament to their camaraderie and shared musical vision.
D-A-D‘s legacy is not only defined by their chart-topping hits but also by their influence on the Danish and Scandinavian rock scenes. They have inspired countless bands with their unique blend of hard rock and charismatic stage presence.
