Another Destiny Project is a group of musicians from Italy of which Peter Pahor (guitar) is the main man. Pahor – some of you might know him from bands like Miss Night and Heat – is responsible for all the songwriting and the production of this self released album. Pahor approached singer Federico Ahrens – he knew him from the local metal scene – to join him and start a new project. A project in which metal should organically be combined with industrial metal, progmetal and yet also cinematic music should not be forgotten. And so it happened: in December 2011 this album was recorded and this year the band started to promote the album worldwide.
I think the band will have a hard job in doing so. The project is particularly strong in power metal-like riffs ‘”Doomsday’) and the band is very much capable of playing progressive metal as well (‘REM’, ‘Insomnia’). Instrumentally the band is just great. But as so often is the case, the vocals are not that good at all. Mr. Ahrens is trying his best (and I appreciate that), but unfortunately the man lacks emotion, strength and real power. Moreover, his English is not without an accent. Put someone like Russell Allen or perhaps Fabio Leone in front of this band and this album easily would have scored two points higher. Those men would carry a great song like ‘Sand’ vocally. And Peter Pahor and Gabriele Giorgi really know how to convince with both their riffs and solos and the rhythm section is solid and well put together. Not all breaks sound completely as they should sound (‘Once Again’) but with a good production that could be solved easily. A band with potential but with the wrong frontman.
