As requested, here’s former Giuffria / Dio guitarist CRAIG GOLDY 1993’s solo album “Insufficient Therapy“, with lead vocals performed by ex- Dokken Jeff Pilson. Here, Goldy explores metal / hard rock territories but not in the traditional way. There’s some impressive instrumentation, crazy guitar licks by Goldy, and pretty interesting songs, quite different from what the musician did in the past.
However, it’s a shame that what actually was released are the pre-production demos. There’s some oddly stories in the music industry, but the anecdote with “Insufficient Therapy” is really curious.
Goldy’s label, Shrapnel Records, wanted “Insufficient Therapy” to be mastered by Wally Traugott, who did “Dark Side of the Moon” for Pink Floyd. So that’s where the budget went… soon Shrapnel figured out there was not more money for proper recording sessions, and used the pre-production takes. An absurd mismanagement of funds…
As result, “Insufficient Therapy” is a pretty rough sounding album, and one wonders what would happened if the complex arrangements on some songs had the right detailed work into the studio.
Still, “Insufficient Therapy” is an interesting listening – although not for everyone – and for sure a rare avis in Craig Goldy’s discography.
